Permit is programmable payment authorization infrastructure that lets software and AI agents make payments without giving them unrestricted access to a user's wallet.
Programmable payment permissions for software and AI agents on Arbitrum.
Permit lets users create strict spending policies for automated payments without giving up control of their wallet.
Set limits for amount, token, recipient, frequency, expiry, and total budget. Every payment is verified against the policy and rejected on-chain when it violates the rules.
Built for AI agents, subscriptions, payment links, and automated payments, with verifiable transaction proofs and a security-first architecture.
During the buildathon, Permit evolved from a programmable payment concept into a complete authorization infrastructure for constrained payments. We designed and implemented the core policy model, smart contract architecture, payment execution flow, wallet authorization flow, backend API, database architecture, blockchain indexing, payment proof system, and agent payment model. The main focus throughout development has been security and enforceable authorization. Payment limits are enforced on-chain rather than trusted to the frontend or backend, with explicit rejection states and transaction proofs. We also refined the architecture to minimize smart contract surface area and make the system easier to test, audit, and extend for recurring payments, payment links, developer integrations, and autonomous agent payments. Permit is being built specifically for deployment on Arbitrum and demonstrates how programmable payment permissions can be used by both humans and software.
